International Conference "Lithuanian Development Cooperation: Contributing to the Africa-EU Partnership"

Since 2004 Lithuania has accumulated solid experience in building development cooperation partnerships with Eastern Partnership countries and is ready to expand its horizon. Lithuania’s engagement with Africa has been quite limited so far. However, as an EU member state Lithuania is willing to diversify the geography of its cooperation. As the development cooperation remains an essential pillar of the Africa-EU partnership as well as an important tool to pursue common goals, Lithuania is looking for ways to contribute to this partnership by bringing its best practices and fresh transformational experiences.

The Conference aims at presenting the EU-Africa cooperation and Lithuania‘s as well as other Baltic States’ perspectives to contribute to the Africa-EU partnership by identifying specific niches for future engagement. The Conference also aims at taking stock of the first steps of the Lithuanian development cooperation with countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa. It will reflect on ways to encourage Lithuanian institutions and other partners to meaningfully engage in the continent by also taking into consideration new trends and priorities in international development cooperation as well as renewed approach to the Africa-EU partnership. The views of the African countries from both state and NGO sectors will be heard as well.

The Conference is expected to bring together development cooperation actors, decision makers and other stakeholders involved in Africa to share the best practices, lessons learned as well as to discuss future engagement, current needs and further steps.
