Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

In 2014-2017, support to Ukraine by the Government of Lithuania exceeds 10,24 million EUR, out of which more than 1,509 million EUR was provided as humanitarian aid:

In 2017, 223 000 EUR was provided as humanitarian aid:

  • 50 000 EUR International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), humanitarian aid  to Ukraine to support health activities;
  • 25 000 EUR International Organisation of Migration (IMO);
  • 25 000 EUR The United Nations Children`s Fund (UNICEF);
  • 123 000  EUR covering the costs for education and living in Lithuania during the AY 2017-2018 for 15 children and 1 accompanying teacher – victims of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine (Ministry of Education and Science)
  • 10 000 EUR Membership fee of the Republic of Lithuania to the ICRC (Ministry of Health)

In 2016:

  • In response to a request by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, over 200,000 packages of necessary medications (worth more than 400 thousand euros) were transported to Ukraine in January 2016.
  • Implementation of 10 development cooperation projects, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania through its Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme.
  • Secondment of experts and observers to the Support Group for Ukraine, OSCE, EUAM and other missions.
  • Scholarships for students from Ukraine.
  • Contribution to the World Health Organization to provide support through integrated quality emergency health and nutrition services delivery to the crisis affected population in Ukraine;
  • Contribution to the UNICEF in the field of Mine Risk Education under 2016 Humanitarian Action for Children in Ukraine.

In 2015:

  • Implementation of 21 development cooperation projects, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania through its Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme.
  • Secondment of experts and observers to the Support Group for Ukraine, OSCE, EUAM and other missions.
  • Scholarships for students from Ukraine;
  • Medical treatment of injured Ukrainians in Lithuanian hospitals;
  • In response to the appeal of the Head of the European Commission DG for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection in January 2015, Lithuania delivered a shipment of humanitarian aid worth 83 thousand euros. Relief supplies included 50 electric heaters, 100 folding beds, 100 warm sleeping-bags, 2 power generators, 10 fuel-fired heaters, 10 tents and 2,000 wool blankets.
  • Necessary medications and medical equipment worth 42 thousand euros were transported to Dnipro hospital in February 2015.
  • Assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Eastern Ukraine, contributing to International Organization for Migration (Mission in Ukraine).
  • Contribution to the International Committee of the Rec Cross to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
  • Contribution to the UNICEF to implement vaccination campaign against polio.

In 2014:

  • Humanitarian assistance included medical treatment of people, injured during the protests in Euromaidan and conflicts in the eastern Ukraine, in Lithuanian hospitals; support for the orphans affected by the conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions; provision of means ensuring basic living conditions for internally displaced people from Donetsk and Luhansk regions), and other;
  • Implementation of 10 development cooperation projects, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania through its Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme in the following areas - development of institutional capacities, support for European integration processes, civil society and regional media, fostering of common historical and cultural heritage;
  • Contributions to OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine;
  • Scholarships for students from Ukraine;
  • Secondment of experts and observers to the OSCE, EUBAM, EUAM and other missions.
