Lithuania allocates humanitarian aid to assist Palestinian refugees
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 20,000 in humanitarian aid to assist Palestinian refugees. The contribution will be transferred to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Of about 5 million Palestine refugees UNRWA serves, it is estimated that 1.2 million live in absolute poverty, while 700,000 live in extreme poverty, unable to meet their most basic food needs. UNRWA needs sufficient funding to carry out its activities in an appropriate manner.
In 2017, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs already allocated EUR 230,000 in humanitarian aid for persons affected by conflicts and natural disasters in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Mali, Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone.
