Representatives of local administration and NGOs attend organisational management training course in Ghor province

On November 6, 2012, Eastern Europe Studies Centre (EESC) launches organisational management training course in Chagcharan for the representatives of local administration and non-governmental (NGO) sector of Ghor province. 15 attendees will learn about human resource management, community organisation and empowerment, principles of planning, and will improve their administrative competences. The trainings will be led by the Lithuanian experts Mr. Paulius Godvadas and Mrs. Vilija Navickaitė.

Representatives of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan observed Parliamentary elections in Lithuania

On October 13-16, 2012, Mr. Fazal Ahmad Manawi, Chairman of the Independent Election Commission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IEC), and Mr. Tabish Forugh, IEC Chief of Staff, visited Lithuania. The goal of the visit was to observe Parliamentary elections and referendum held in Lithuania on October 14 with the overall aim to get acquainted with the election system in Lithuania, including activities of Lithuanian Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

Doctor from Lithuania shared her knowledge and experience with personnel of Chaghcharan hospital

On February 24th of 2011, military and civilian personnel of the Lithuanian-led PRT, a doctor from Lithuania and Governor of Ghor province organised a ceremony of presentation of qualification certificates for medics of Chaghcharan hospital and delivered assistance. Qualification certificates were presented to doctors and midwives of the hospital who graduated from qualification courses.

The Delegation of the European Commission (EC) in Tirana announced, that the European Union's twinning project "Enhancement of the Operational and Logistical Capacities of the Directorate of Witness and Special Persons Protection" will be implemented by Lithuania's Police Department and its specialized agency - the Criminal Police Bureau. About 60 percent of development aid in the world comes from the EU. And new member states are adding more money to the Development Fund. But can their own experiences with transition contribute to aid effectiveness? In spite of the staggering amount of aid (billions annually), it still remains difficult to quantify the European Union's success in Africa. One thing is certain; the EU is yet to optimize its ability to contribute to development and the eradication of poverty on the continent.

The European Commission has issued a call for proposals for a €7 million new regional investment and trade facilitation project EAST-INVEST. It is open to the countries involved in the Eastern Partnership, namely Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and covers the period from 2010 to 2013.
