The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided humanitarian assistance to the residents of eastern Ukraine

On 14 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania allocated 175 thousand litas in humanitarian assistance to the residents of eastern Ukraine who have been affected by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The funds will be transferred to the United Nations Refugee Agency, which provides emergency humanitarian assistance to the forcibly displaced people and the people who have lost their place of residence in Ukraine.

Fifteen children from eastern Ukraine to study in Lithuania

Fifteen children and their two teachers affected by the aggression in Ukraine‘s Donetsk and Luhansk regions will live and study in Lithuania for one year. The first seven 14-year-olds arrived in Lithuania on 29 October. They will live and study at Vilnius Lithuanians’ House until 1st September, 2015.

Lithuania allocates humanitarian aid to children in Iraq and to fight Ebola

Paying due regard to relevant needs of humanitarian aid in the world, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania decided to voluntarily contribute 26,000 EUR of international humanitarian assistance to help children in Iraq through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and 10,000 EUR for the World Food Program’s operation to help prevent the spread of Ebola haemorrhagic fever.

Lithuania provides humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians affected by the conflict in Gaza

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated humanitarian assistance of 30 thousand Euros to the Palestinians affected by the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The funds will be transferred to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which carries out assistance programmes to the Palestinians.

Unanimous adoption of Syrian humanitarian resolution: delivery of cross-border humanitarian assistance should not be hampered

In its explanation of vote on the Resolution 2165 on humanitarian situation in Syria, Lithuania stressed that when a government was no longer in a position to guarantee the safety and the basic needs of its citizens, it must not stand in the way of international relief organizations to do so. Over the last three years this crucial principle has been repeatedly violated, in particular by the Syrian government.
